He is 12 years old. His real name is Florian, but everyone calls him Floh, which is German for Flea. He can't find anyone who'll take him seriously, and he's determined to do something about it.
"Joining Martin Adler's gang seems a good way of solving the problem. So he proves he's no coward by breaking a window, and joins in the action at the lakeshore when the gang set fire to a tramp's belongings. The trouble is, Floh thinks what they're doing is terrible and he feels awful about it. But he hasn't got the guts to say "no" – maybe his nickname suits him after all. Then he meets Zwille."
Zwille is almost grown up – he's a loner, an outsider and a rebel. He's been kicked out of school, but that suits him down to the ground. Floh would like to be just like Zwille, and to his amazement they become the best of friends. Floh can't believe that Zwille would ever let him down. But that's exactly what happens. Laura arrives on the scene, and they both fall madly in love with her, even though she's much older than Floh. He would have accepted things if it were just a matter of Laura preferring Zwille, but what he can't bear is the fact that the two of them make a fool of him. So he ends up on his own again. But he is wiser for the experience. And then Maja turns up – someone he can really trust…
