“I strive for the light, and sometimes I reach it,” says famous theatrical magus Luc Bondy, who has the rare gift of making the spaces between the lines resonate, whether on stage, in cinema or, ever more frequently, in literature.
Following the much-acclaimed novel Am Fenster and his collection of short stories Meine Dibbuks, it is now time to discover Bondy as a poet. Within the predominantly free-form verses we can sense an artist who observes the lonely man in the Jardin du Luxembourg and chants the ballad of Evelyn Klaus, the »skinny girl«, while never quite able to forget that »age is gnawing at my bones«. Bondy’s lyrical focus is sustained by love and undiminished desire: »I pursue your heavenly presence; when you are in Toronto I stay earthbound, but my heart takes flight to Canada.«
