Sparrows' Salad

Reinhard Michl, Friedrich Hoffmann

When the sparrows invade the cherry tree, they certainly make a racket. In and out they fly, with wings-a-flutter and angry chirruping, and cherrystones scattered everywhere. Of course, there's bound to be trouble.

Friedrich Hoffmann chose this scene for one of the finest and funniest nursery rhymes of all time. Children love his zany wordplay and the eccentric, grandiloquent rhymes – and grown-ups are always amazed at how easily the little ones remember all those difficult words. Reinhard Michl has contributed wonderfully lively pictures to this all-time favourite, making it the perfect book for pre-school children.
