Silver Arrows

Walter Kappacher

While travelling through Italy, a motor sports journalist discovers a museum dedicated to racing driver Tazzio Nuvolari and decides to write a book about Germany's Silver Arrow racing cars of the 1930s. His research leads him to Paul Windisch, an 85-year-old Austrian engineer, and unveils much that has been repressed.

"A master of the fine art of understatement, Kappacher succeeds in shedding light on the connections between motor racing and an authoritarian society, as well as those between the cult of the machine and fascist ideology, without in any way detracting from the passion of his protagonists."
