So when booksellers, educational centres or other cultural institutions call, asking for a reading or a lecture, Rafik Schami always agrees – and is forever rushing from one end of Germany to the other. By now he knows every cheap hotel in the country (and most of the better ones, too), has consumed every brand of wine, beer and spirit Germany has to offer, has visited major cities and the most out of the way places, scrawled his name in countless copies of his own books, and scarcely knows who he is anymore. Then one night, after a reading, a friend proposes a solution: why not clone yourself?
