Just count on Lilly

Jens Sparschuh

Lily has a terrible row with her friend Felicity. Because Felicity refuses to believe that there are lucky and unlucky numbers. Fine, so Lily will produce some evidence…

Lucky numbers are a fact, they come up every week on the TV lottery. And if there are lucky numbers, there must be unlucky ones, too. Like seven. We say, for instance, that she has an expression on her face like seven days of rain. The one, on the other hand, is surely a lucky number. And if Lily came first in the race just once – that would be lucky! And the two? On Tuesdays, school ends at two, and she's lucky to survive that long… The three is, again, a lucky number. In fairy tales, you have three wishes, don't you? And so on and so on. The only funny number is seven, because on the seventh day of the week, Lily and Felicity make up again. So seven is both a lucky and an unlucky number – and both friends are right. Who would have counted on that?
