Horizon is a retirement home for elderly witches who have handed in their books of spells and are enjoying a well-earned rest from their lives of witchery. So it is understandable that there is great excitement when the old ladies are forced to ride their broomsticks once more…

Once they reach the age of eight-hundred-and-fifty, it is time for elderly witches to hang up their broomsticks and leave the hocus-pocus to the youngsters. However, they do still meticulously look after their lovely warts – after all, one doesn't want to let oneself go – , and they still complain continuously about the porridge of mouse fur they are served for breakfast as if they were still only fresh-behind-the-ears witches of one-hundred-and-fifty or so! What they look forward to most of all are the visits of the two children, Feenlili and Bumumbel Rumumbel. Omena is especially fond of the girls, but then she does tend to have sentimental thoughts at times that are altogether unbecoming for a witch. When Feenlili and Bumumbel abruptly stop visiting, it is hardly surprising that Omena is extremely concerned for their welfare. There is no choice: she and the other retired witches must ignore the strict rules of Horizon House and take up their broomsticks and books of spells once more.
