In the beginning was the chicken. With this and other, similarly intricate formulations from his ALLSEITIGE BESCHREIBUNG DER WELT, Ludwig Harig became known to a larger public in 1972. By then he had already analyzed what the much-heralded "beautiful future" would carry to extremes some thirty years later, recognizing that leaders of industry would be able to "invent an economic miracle or economic crisis", as conditions required, and profit from it.

As a poet, however, Harig stays faithful to the sound of words and to formal rigidity, with the sonnet his favourite poetic form. This book contains several volumes of poems, published between 1972 and 1997, as well as miscellaneous poems drawn from five decades of literary endeavour.
