Peter Hammerschlag

Peter Hammerschlag was born in 1902 into a wealthy Jewish family. After gaining cabaret experience in Berlin and Vienna, he became a regular contributor to the Lieber Augustin and published poems and prose in various leading German-speaking magazines. After Austria's annexation, he fled to Yugoslavia, was expelled and returned to Vienna, where he lived in hiding. On July 17, 1942 he was deported and died later in Auschwitz.
