Johannes Willms was born in 1948 and lives in Paris. He is an historian, and works as cultural correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung. He has published numerous books on German and French history, including the biographies Napoleon (2005), Balzac (2007), Napoleon III (2008), and Die deutsche Krankheit. Eine kurze Geschichte der Gegenwart (2001).
