Alfred Bodenheimer was born in Basle in 1965. He read German and history, gaining his PhD with a thesis on Else Lasker-Schüler, and went on to study the Talmud in Israel and America. In 2002 he was appointed Profes-sor for Jewish Studies at Basle University. Nagel & Kimche published his debut novel Kains Opfer in 2014, followed by Das Ende vom Lied in 2015.
